Judges' Notes

Her layouts are so free and fun. Love the whimsical style she is able to showcase in her work. How cute are the handmade flowers with the photo centers for the ‘3 years little’ layout? I really applaud Laura for including her own handwritten journaling in her work and for adding it in fun ways. The mixed media mini album is simple gorgeous! A bit of a freestyle scrapbooker- it’s gonna be fun to see what Laura creates next. Inventive, creative, original.

Hello crafters, my name is Laura Cook. I am married and have 3 wonderful little kids. In any spare time we like to hunt, camp, fish and do remodeling projects together. In which- all provide great captured family moments, that HAVE TO be scrapbooked.

I have been scrapbooking/paper crafting for about 10 years now. Can't get enough of it! I look back at my very first scrapbook pages and cringe, but love viewing the progress I've made over time. I would describe my scrapbooking style as clean yet eclectic. I challenge myself in combining different elements: metal, fabric, acrylic, paper, chipboard, paint and more. I am versatile, able to capture & enhance any style or mood of a photo. My favorite, current technique is creating layers upon layers of hand-cut, folded and distressed patterned paper flowers, topped off with buttons and bling. (I'll have a new favorite tomorrow!)

If I was stranded on a remote island I could not live without: a journaling notebook and pen, sanding file, fluid chalk ink pad, tape runner, paper trimmer and of course- food! I would also need lots of paper from my Favorite manufactures: Basic Grey, Crate Paper, Bella Blvd., American Crafts or Jillibean Soup.

I am definitely not a chronological scrapbooker. I start with the photos/event/story and create around them. I admit, sometimes I start with a great new product line I'm in love with and take photos that purposely coordinate. I am simply inspired by product that catches my eye and everyday family life craziness. I keep a sketch pad and pen next to my bed because visions of my projects usually always come to me at 2 a.m.! Then, the next chance I get, when the kids are asleep, green tea close by, I create following my sketches. I work best with my 'stuff' all spread out on my kitchen table (I call it an organized mess).

My personal theme song would be one by Carolyn Arends. It goes: 'Seize the day, seize whatever you can, cuz life slips away just like hour glass hands. Seize the day, pray for grace from God's hands, that nothing would stand in your way... seize the day!
