TENSION (GAUGE): 10 sts and 14 rows to 10 cm (4 ins) over stocking st, using 9mm (US 13) knitting needles.
NOTE: Correct tension/gauge is essential for successful handknit.

Instructions
BACK: Using 9mm (US 13) needles, cast on 42 (45-51) sts.
1st row (WS) - Purl.
2nd row - *K1, wrapping yarn around both needles, the one needle, repeat from * to end.
3rd row - *P3tog leaving sts on left hand needle, yrn and purl into the P3tog again, repeat from * to end. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows until work measures 17 cm (7 ins) from beginning, ending with a 3rd row. Work in stocking st for remainder until work measure 21 cm (8.5 ins) from beginning, ending with a purl row.

Shape armholes:
Cast (bind) off 3 (3 - 4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows = 36 (39 - 43) sts. Decrease one st at each end of next row, then in every following alternate row until 32 (35 - 37 sts remain. Work a further 21 (23 - 23) rows without shaping.

Shape Shoulders:
Cast (bind) off 6 (7 - 7) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Leave remaining 20 (21 - 23) sts on a stitch-holder.

LEFT FRONT: Using 9mm (US 13) needles, cast on 22 (22 - 25) sts.
1st row (WS) - Purl.
2nd row - *K1, wrapping yarn around both needles, then one needle, repeat from * to last st, K1.
3rd row - P1, *P3tog leaving sts on left hand needle, yrn and purl into the P3tog again, repeat from * to end. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows until work measures 17 cm (7 ins) from beginning, ending with a 3rd row.
Next row - Knit, decreasing 1 (0 - 0) st/s in center=21 (22 - 25) sts. Work in stocking st for remainder (beginning with a purl row), until work measures 21 cm (8.5 ins) from beginning, ending with a purl row.

Shape Armhole:
Cast (bind) off 3 (3 - 4) sts at beginning of next row = 18 (19 - 21) sts. Decrease one st at armhole edge in every following alternate row until 16 (17 - 18) sts remain. Work a further 14 (16 - 14) rows without shaping.

Shape Neck:
Next row (WS) - Cast (bind) off 5 sts, purl to end = 11 (12 - 13) sts. Decrease one st at neck edge in every row until 6 (7 - 7) sts remain. Work 1 (1 - 2) row/s.

Shape Shoulder:
Cast (bind) off remaining 6 (7 - 7) sts.

Shape Shoulder - Cast (bind) off remaining 6 (7 - 7) sts.

SLEEVES: Using 9mm (US 13) needles, cast on 21 (24 - 27) sts.
1st row (WS) - Purl.
2nd row - *K1, wrapping yarn around both needles, then one needle, repeat from * to end.
3rd row - *P3tog leaving stson left hand needle, yrn and pul into the P3tog again, repeat from * to end. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows until work measures 15 cm (6 ins) from beginning, ending with a 3rd row. Work in stocking st for remainder, increasing 1 st at each end of following 3rd row, then in every following 8th row until there are 29 (32 - 35) sts. Continue without shaping until work measures 40 cm (16 ins) from beginning, ending with a purl row.

Shape Top - Cast (bind) off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows = 25 (28 - 31) sts. Decrease one st at each end of next row, then in every following alternate row until 7 (8 - 9) sts remain. Work 1 row. Cast (bind) off loosely.

RIGHT FRONT EDGING: With RS of work facing and using 9mm (US 13) needles, knit up 34 (36 - 36) sts evenly along right front edge. Cast (bind) off loosely knitways.

LEFT FRONT EDGING: Work to correspond with Right Front Edging.

NECK EDGING: Using yarn needle and back-stitch, join shoulder seams. Using 9mm (US 13) needles, cast on 10 sts for button loop and knit across these 10 sts, with RS of working facing, knit up 11 (12 - 13) sts evenly along right front neck, knit across sts from back stitch-holder, then knit up 11 (12 - 13) sts evenly along left front neck = 52 (55 - 59) sts. Cast (bind) off loosely knitways.

FINISHING: DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in all ends. Using yarn needle and backstitch, join side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Fold the 10 sts cast on for button loop in half and stitch end neatly in position to wrong side of neck. Sew on button to Left Front at neck to correspond with button loop.
