| Tension/Gauge: 12 sts and 21 rows to 10 cm (4 ins) over moss st, using 5.50mm (US 9) knitting needles. Note: correct tension/gauge is essential for a successful handknit.
Instructions
BACK AND FRONT (make 2 pieces alike): Using 5.50mm (US 9) needles, cast on 35 sts.
1st row: K1, *P1, K1, rep from * to end. Rep 1st row for moss st until work measures 18 cm (7 ins) from beg, working on last row on WS.
Beg handle band: 1st row: K2, *P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.
2nd row: K1, *P1, K1, rep from * to end. Rep 1st and 2nd rows until hand band measures 4 cm (1.5 ins) ending with a 2nd row.
Next row: Rib 11, cast (bind) off 13 sts, rib to end. Cont in rib until handle band measures 9 cm (3.5 ins), ending with a 2nd row.
Cast (bind) off loosely in rib. FINISHING: DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in ends. Using yarn needle and back-stitch, join back and front pieces together at lower edge and sides. |
