Needles

A Circular 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Knitting Needle for Lampshade. A pair 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Knitting Needles for Cushion and Throw or sizes that gives correct tension/gauge.

MATERIALS

A Yarn Needle; A 40 cm/16 in x 40 cm/16 in cushion insert for Cushion; A lampshade approx. circumference 100 cms/40 ins and craft glue for Lampshade.

TENSION/GAUGE

9 sts and 14 rows to 10 cms/4 ins over patt, using 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Knitting Needles.
Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential for a successful handknit.

ABBREVIATIONS

St/s - stitch/es, K - Knit, garter st - every row knit, RS - right side, WS - wrong side, inc - increase by knitting into front and back of stitch, dec - knit or purl 2 sts together, patt - pattern, beg - begin/ning, cont - continue.

CREATE

Lampshade

Using a 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Circular Needle, cast on 88 sts.
Join into a round taking care not to twist cast on sts. Note - This Lampshade is worked in rounds not rows.
Beg patt - 1st round - Purl.
2nd round - Knit, winding yarn twice around needle for each st.
3rd round - Purl, dropping extra loop of each st. Last 2 rows form pattern.
Cont in patt until work measures approx. 32 cms/13 ins from beg, ending with a 3rd row.
Next round - Purl. Cast/bind off very loosely.

Cushion - Main Piece (make 2)

Using a pair of 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Needles, cast on 50 sts.
Knit 2 rows garter st (1st row is WS). 3rd row - K2tog, * K1, K2tog, rep from * to end = 33 sts.
Beg patt - 1st row - Knit, winding yarn twice around needle for each st.
2nd row - Knit, dropping extra loop of each st. Last 2 rows form pattern.
Work in patt as for Lampshade until work measures 38 cms/15 ins from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Next row - Inc in first st, * K1, inc in next st, rep from * to end = 50 sts.
Knit 2 rows garter st. Cast/bind off loosely knitways.
Side Bands - Using a pair 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Needles, knit up 50 sts evenly along side edge of main piece. Knit 3 rows garter st. Cast/bind off loosely knitways. Rep along other side edge.

Throw - Main Piece

Using a pair of 6.00mm (US 10), (UK 4) Needles, cast on 104 sts.
1st row - Knit (WS).
Beg patt - 1st row - Knit, winding yarn twice around needle for each st.
2nd row - Knit, dropping extra loop of each st. Last 2 rows form patt.
