NEEDLES

A pair 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Knitting Needles.
Note - Correct tension/gauge is not essential for this scarf.

MATERIALS

A Yarn Needle.
Matching plain yarn for sewing seam.

TENSION/gauge

6 sts (6 pom pons) and 15 rows (8 pom pons on RS) to 10 cms/4 ins, using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Needles.
Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential for a successful handknit.

ABBREVIATIONS

St/s - stitch/es, K - knit, RS - right side, WS - wrong side, garter st - every row knit, beg - begin/ning, M1 - make one st by picking up loop that lies before next st, place on left hand needle and knit into back of loop, rep - repeat, cont - continue.

SPECIAL NOTE

Work the thumb method when casting on sts rather than using a pair of needles, ensure that each stitch has a pom pon. When knitting make sure that on each stitch a pom pon is left at the back of the work, ie. work each stitch between each pom pon on the yarn.
Before casting/binding off, trim very carefully each alternate pom pon off main yarn.

CREATE

Papoose (beg at lower edge)
Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Needles, cast on 18 sts, leaving a long end to gather edge when completed.)
Knit 2 rows garter st.)
3rd row - K2, * M1, K2, rep from * to end = 26 sts.)
Knit 5 rows garter st.)
9th row - K2, * M1, K3, rep from * to end = 34 sts.)
Knit 5 rows garter st.)
15th row - K2, * M1, K4, rep from * to end = 42 sts.)
Cont in garter st without shaping until work measures 60 cms/24 ins from beg, working last row on WS.)
Cast/bind off loosely knitways.)

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in ends, omitting cast on edge thread.
Using yarn needle, matching plain yarn and a flat seam, join side edges together. Remove or flatten pom pons from cast on thread. Run cast on thread through cast on sts and draw up tightly. Fasten off securely.
