Lucky Bamboo Project

Lucky Bamboo

Supplies

  • Lucky Bamboo Stalks
  • Glass Cylinder of Choice
  • Marbles or Polished Rocks
  • Bottled Water

Instructions

  • Lucky Bamboo is strictly an indoor plant. It will not live outdoors or if transplanted to soil.
  • Keep your arrangement away from direct sunlight in a room above 60.
  • Lucky Bamboo stems must be in at least one inch of clean water. Change the water weekly and clean your container every month.
  • Always use bottled water, as tap water often contains chlorine, salt and fluoride, all of which are damaging to the plants. Distilled water is not recommended, because important minerals are not present.
  • High water levels may induce excessive roots. Trimming the roots will slow the growth of your Lucky Bamboo stalks.
  • To grow new stalks from your original ones (or to shorten them), make a clean cut through the stalk, just below a joint. Place the cutting in fresh, clean water with the addition of a growth hormone, found at your local nursery.
  • Lucky Bamboo should be arranged in odd numbers. According to Asian wisdom, arranging your Lucky Bamboo in certain numbers (or multiples of these numbers) will enhance these areas of your life: Three: Happiness - Five: Wealth - Seven: Good Health.
  • Lucky Bamboo arrangements make thoughtful gifts… it is considered good luck to receive one.
