Vinyl Transfers

Use Vinyl Transfers to decorate walls, wood, glass, metal and much more!

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Start with a clean, dry, dust free surface
  2. Make certain the transfer tape (top layer) adheres well to your vinyl   letters by rubbing across the saying with a burnishing tool, popsicle stick, or credit card.
  3. Peel off the top transfer tape from the backing; this will leave your saying on the transfer tape. The backing paper will be blank.
  4. Position your saying face down onto your surface. Use a burnishing tool, popsicle stick, or credit card to rub the vinyl onto your surface.
  5. Starting at one corner, slowly peel back the transfer tape, making sure all vinyl has adhered to the surface. Remove the tape in a diagonal  manner. If a portion of the design sticks to the transfer tape, simply reposition the tape and rub the image a bit more. Tweezers are helpful for lifting any stubborn pieces from the transfer tape.

TIPS & TECHNIQUES

Centering your design

  • If you wish to center your design on the surface, use a pencil and ruler to mark the horizontal and vertical centers of your words on the   transfer tape as well as your surface.
  • Line up the center marks in step 4 to center your design before your burnish it.

Wood

  • For best results on wood, apply transfers to painted, stained, or sealed wood.
  • Make sure the paint is completely dry before proceeding. If the paint is not completely dry, the lettering will stick only to the paint and easily peel off.

Walls

When working on walls:

  • · During step 3, use a pencil and ruler to draw a baseline under your words, directly on the transfer tape.
  • · When positioning your transfer to the wall in step 5, just lightly stick the transfer at the top corners of the tape.
  • · Use a yardstick and level to make sure your words are not slanting horizontally. Use the vertical and horizontal center marks to make sure your design is centered in the space on your wall as desired.
  • · Once the transfer is positioned properly on your wall, you can be sure the entire surface of the transfer tape is adhered to the wall. Continue onto step 5 of the basic instructions.

Trouble Removing Backing?

If any portion of your transfer does not stick to the surface and stays on the transfer tape, try one of these techniques:

  • · Reposition the tape and rub the image a bit more with your burnishing tool.
  • · Use tweezers or your fingernails to gently lift any stubborn pieces from the transfer tape.
  • · Use your fingers to coax and guide the transfer from the transfer tape to the surface.

REMOVING YOUR TRANSFERS

Vinyl transfers are easy to remove! To remove, simply use tweezers to gently pull the lettering off your surface. If you’ve had the lettering on the wall for a long period of time, you can soften them up with a hair dryer.

Note: As dark-painted (such as red, brown, or forest green) walls age, the sun tends to lighten the color. If you remove your lettering after an extended  period of time, you may see a “ghosting effect” in the shape of the letters.
