Zipper Flowers

Zipper Flowers are stylish, adorable and trendy!  They look amazing as accessories and we have some tricks to get you started so you can create your own.

 For a rounded petal:

Start with a 3 1/2" length of zipper trim.

Use a basting stitch close to the edge in the center 1" portion of the trim.

Gather basting stitch, drawing trim into a curve.  Take into place.

Fold trim in half and do a basting stitch through both layers, angled from the tacked spot to the teeth.  This will create a rounded petal on the front side.

Press seam open on the back for ease in stitching together.

For a pointed petal:

Start with a 3 1/2" length of zipper trim.

Fold in half and do an overstitch 1/2" from the fold.

Then do a basting stitch through both layers, make sure it's angled (this creates a pointed petal on the front side).

Press seam open on the back for ease in stitching together.

For a star effect look, use the pointed petal but turn inside out!

Leaves:

Start with a 3 1/2" length of contrasting zipper trim.

Fold in half, overlapping inside edges to meet zipper teeth.

Tack together with basting stitch.  Add beaded trim if desired.

Repeat, to make two leaves.

This method can be used for petals too.

Cut a circle from wool felt that measures 1 1/4" in diameter.  Stitch circle to the back of the pin to cover stitches and add a decorative button to the center.  Add a pin back to complete.

Fun with Zipper Trim

Create a running stitch down the length of 20" zipper trim and gather it.  Here is an example of what you can do (this one is attached to a hair barrette).
