Blanket Stitching Tutorial |
Basic Supplies
- Embroidery floss or yarn of choice
- Needle with eye sufficient in size for above
Basic Instructions
- If using embroidery floss, most projects will use three strands. Adjust for bulky or delicate projects
- Refer to diagram. Bring needle up at point A, down at point B and up again at point C. The thread should remain under the needle at point C.
- Repeat the same stitch to the right of the first. Point C becomes point A as you continue.
- Work the entire design the same, keeping the height and spacing of your stitches even.

HINTS
- Work the blanket stitch from left to right and think of it as a square-match the depth and width of each stitch.
- Coordinate the size of your stitch with the scale of the project. Small projects look better with small stitches.
- Your finished project will look much more uniform if you don’t have to stop and start often. Estimate the length of thread by laying it loosely around the design and multiply by four.
