Basic Supplies

  • Pigment Ink Pad
  • Embossing Powder
  • Embossing Heat Tool

BASIC INSTRUCTIONS

1. Stamp image with pigment ink.

2. Pour embossing powder over your stamped image, totally covering the design.

3. Turn project over and tap off excess powder onto a clean piece of paper. Return excess powder to the container for re-use.

4. Turn your heat gun on and let it heat up for a second. Aim the tool at your paper, holding it a few inches above the embossing powder. Gently move your gun to direct the heat across the design, continuing until all powder has melted into a shiny, raised finish.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do I need to use Pigment Ink?

Pigment ink is slow drying. This is important when embossing, as the ink needs to remain wet long enough for you to melt the embossing powder.

Should I use colored ink or colored powders?

· If you use colored ink (such as ColorBox), you will want to use a clear embossing powder. Your finished, raised design will be the color of the INK.

· If you use clear or tinted ink (such as Top Boss or VersaMark), you will want to use colored powders. The finished design will be the color of the POWDER.

Do I really need to use a heat tool, or can I use my hair dryer?

Your embossing heat tool gets much hotter than your hair dryer, and puts out less air. Your hair dryer will blow the powder everywhere and won’t melt it. Before heat tools were invented, people used a toaster or iron to melt the powder. We do not recommend these methods, as they are quite unsafe.

How can I prevent smudges and unwanted specks of embossing?

There are several ways to prevent smudges.

· Use a small paint brush to flick away unwanted powder before you melt it with the heat tool. Some stampers cut away most of the bristles of a brush, leaving only a few, in order to remove powder in very small areas.

· Use an anti-static pouch. An anti-static pouch is a muslin bag filled with anti-static powder. Tap it on your surface before you stamp your design. The anti-static powder prevents embossing powder from sticking to anything that hasn’t been stamped.

Can I emboss on anything other than paper?

You can emboss anything that can withstand the heat of the embossing heat tool: paper, cards, scrapbook layouts, tins, gift boxes, wood, glass, and much more!
