Judges' Notes:

"Authentic, Real, Confident, Charismatic, Effortless, Natural. Whitney understands ‘white space' and isn't afraid of it.

Impeccable craftsmanship. A "technique ninja" - at first glance you may not notice all the techniques this girl has in her scrapbook arsenal.  She doles them out in just the right amount- they only enhance they do not distract. It's as if everything she touches comes alive with feeling, her work as a GLOW."

 Whitney Wilcox

My name is Whitney Esmee Wilcox and I live in Vale, Oregon…a little bitty town on the Oregon/Idaho border that I absolutely love. I am 24…soon to be 25. I am a CPhT (certified pharmacy technician), daughter, sister, closet “treckie”, volleyball and softball goddess, avid romance reader (don’t say it…I know!), lemon lover, and fiancé with a terrible sweet tooth. I have been with my current fiancé for ten years in May…we met when we were freshmen in high school and will soon be eloping to Vegas to get married by Elvis (not jumpsuit Elvis but leather jacket Elvis). I have an AAOT (Associates of Art Oregon Transfer Degree), and am only 15 credits from by Bachelors in Chemistry with a Minor in Visual Arts. I hope to then continue on to get my PhD in Pharmacy.

I have been scrapbooking for a little over two years now. I started when my sister came home with some scrapbooking stuff because she wanted to start a hobby to keep herself busy while her husband was serving in Iraq. We sat down and got started and haven’t stopped since. I absolutely love it. It is a way for me to leave little bits of my self around. I get to show people who I am, what kind of person I am, what I am passionate about, what I work for, and what is in my heart. What I love most about scrapbooking is the unlimited possibilities for self exploration and creative imagination. I have taught many classes at a scrapbooking store that I worked at in Salem and I absolutely loved it!!!

If I was stranded on a remote island, the products I couldn’t live without are: My inks of course…they are like my children and I really cannot function with out them. I would also have my Making Memories Magnetic Trimmer, my Fiskars Triple Track Slide Trimmer, my scissors, exacto knife and Making Memories Self Healing Mat. I would definitely need my Making Memories Tool Kit, a black glaze pen, a white soufflé pen, a supply of naked chipboard, and anything made by Cosmo Cricket, Scenic Route, and My Minds Eye. Oh…and I can’t forget adhesive. I would bring Mini Glue Dots, and 3 in 1 liquid glue by Beacon (seriously the best).

My favorite technique? That is a hard one…I would have to say that it is inking.  The techniques that I am using are always changing and evolving from some of the basics like painting, stamping, and lacing, to transparencies, interactive elements, and hybrid layouts, but the one thing that I do most often in every project no matter what they style…is ink or chalk the edges of just about everything. It just seems to add the perfect something. My favorite inks to use are Cat Eye’s; I am totally obsessed and have every chalk color they make. I know…it is a sad, sad obsession but I can’t help it. They just seem to call my name.

One of my biggest dreams is to start a large family with my fiancé Adam and build a scrapbooking empire with my sister. I am certainly blessed to be able to do the things that I love and share them with others!
